Two-Way Science and Aboriginal Learning

Round Up of Excursions, Aboriginal Learning and Two-Way Science 2025

We have been fortunate enough to be involved in NAIDOC, reconciliation walks, tree planting and Wongutha, amongst other things over 2025. We have had a focus on science in nature. Two-way Science is about learning about science from the world’s oldest continuing culture. We have also learnt about culture, increased our knowledge and had a great time learning from many Wudgari people. We particularly enjoyed the Science that came along incidentally, like learning about the power of the waves and natures forces!  A key part was learning about native plants and restoring the land. The students have learnt about the impact of nature on the land, as well as the damage that humans can do to the environment.  The students were part of a project to rejuvenate the dunes at The Duke of Orleans. Here are just a few photos we took. We have planned to incorporate a bush tucker garden, but sourcing the plants has proved harder to find in the Esperance area. We will keep looking and working on this though!

We would never have been able to be involved in so many excursions and activities if we had not had the amazing support of Southern Ports. Southern Ports are committed to delivering positive and lasting impacts on the communities in which they live and work. They have supported us in education, sustainability and to be involved in community events by providing us with funding. Thank you so much, Southern Ports, you have supported us in 2024 and 2025 and we are very grateful.
