Tree Planting at the Duke

On Friday 24th July our Junior Room and Senior Room joined together to participate in a Tree Planting excursion at the Duke. This initiative had been coordinated by the Shire of Esperance staff Julie Waters and Katie White.

A note from Julie Waters:
"The enthusiasm and excitement from the students was contagious, the students listened to verbal instructions, were polite and well-mannered and the staff assisting were amazing. I have never seen such a hard working bunch of teachers, staff, and parents accompanying a school group in all my years of doing community tree planting. Please pass this message on to all staff and parents involved.

We planted 670 seedlings and this will contribute to erosion control and increasing fauna habitat on a degraded secondary dune system east of Little Whartons.

The Shire would like to put a small sign at the site acknowledging the students efforts at this site.  We are hoping that this sign will not only give the students some ownership over this site but help protect it from vandals.

We plan more work within the Duke of Orleans Bay Regional Park over the coming years and we hope to continue to hold a schools tree day with students in 2021 (as we did above Wharton Beach in 2019). (Note: National Tree Day was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid 19).

I’m hoping these 670 seedlings have the same high survival rate as the ones we planted in 2019 with your students, that area is looking great."
